Changes

Wednesday, October 20th, 2004 No comments

Over the past week or so I’ve made a few changes to the front page. I put more stuff on it and made placeholders for future links. The photo album and the forums are both active now (they were both sitting out there for a while before I made links to them). Also, I changed some of the code that generates these pages and I fixed a bug that wouldn’t allow you to preview a comment before posting it.

If anything doesn’t work or just looks weird, let me know.

The Return of the King

Sunday, October 17th, 2004 2 comments

The Return of the King (Platinum Series Special Extended Collector’s Gift Set) is now available for pre-order and will be released on December 14. It has about 50 minutes of extra scenes, a lot of behind the scenes material, and a sculpture of Minas Tirith. I can’t wait to see this. I’ve ordered the gift sets for the previous 2 movies in the series and I’m going to get this one. I’ve put off watching this movie on DVD until I could watch the extended editions. I did the same with the first 2. If want to order it and use the link above to do so, it’ll help me out some.

New Endangered Species

Friday, October 15th, 2004 No comments

According to this article, some experts think that software programmers could soon become an endangered species in the United States. This could happen because jobs are being outsourced to other countries and because skilled immigrants are taking jobs that were once held by Americans. Being a programmer myself I hope that this prediction does not come true. Software project managers may be safe, but I don’t think I’ll be in that type of position anytime soon.

Documentary Film Binge

Thursday, October 14th, 2004 No comments

This week I’m going on a little bit of a documentary film binge.

It started on Monday when Diary of a Political Tourist made its debut on HBO. It’s about the Democratic presidential race from the primaries until the convention this past summer. It’s done by the same lady who made Journeys with George, which is about George Bush’s 2000 campaign. I’ve got this one in my Netflix queue.

Today I’m watching Bush’s Brain and Fahrenheit 9/11. Bush’s Brain is about Karl Rove, who a lot of people think has more to do with shaping our national policy than our president. I’m sure just about everbody has heard about Fahrenheit 9/11, but I’ve never seen it before.

Tomorrow I’ll be watching Supersize Me, which takes a look at the fast food industry. It may be a while before I go to McDonald’s again after I watch this one.

In my Netflix queue I have Bush Family Fortunes: The Best Democracy Money Can Buy. I’m sure it covers a lot of the same stuff as Fahrenheit 9/11, but I’ll watch it anyway. It currently has a long wait, so I’m not sure when I’ll get to see it.

If I need any reasons to dislike our president and fast food restaurants, I’m sure I’ll have them by the time I am done. It might not watch any movies for a while after this weekend.

Columbia House Gets Mature

Thursday, October 14th, 2004 No comments

A few years ago I joined the Columbia House DVD Club.  I haven’t ordered anything from them in years because I fulfilled my membership obligation and it’s normally easier to buy DVD’s from a local store.  I got an email a little while ago saying that they were going to start offering “mature” titles.  Initially, they are only going to offer Playboy videos, but they will expand their selection in the future.  So go join Columbia House and get your porn!

I got an email concerning The Matrix Online Beta this morning. I think that’s all I will say about that.

Back in Jackson

Saturday, October 9th, 2004 No comments

I’m back in Jackson this weekend, but this time it was for a sad occasion. Today I went to the funeral of my uncle who passed away on Tuesday from cancer. I had only seen him 10 days before on the day of my cousin’s wedding, which I wrote about here. I knew he wasn’t feeling well, but I didn’t realize just how it was. I found out today that after I left he said that I looked like a preacher in my suit.

I think I’ll get back to my reminiscing now.

Goodbye Paragon City

Saturday, October 2nd, 2004 No comments

Earlier tonight I played City of Heroes for the last time. I decided that I would quit once I got to a certain level and my goal was to get to that level this weekend. I was in the beta for this game and I bought it shortly after it’s release in late April. When I was in Ohio I hardly ever played and when I got back I would sometimes go many days without playing. However, over the past couple of weeks it’s been a lot more fun and I’ve been putting more hours into it. This is definitely one of the best MMOG’s that I have ever played.

Tonight I gained the ability of flight (better than the hover ability I had before) and took a little trip around the area before I left (see above pictures). During my last session, I played with the best group I had ever played with, so I started to have second thoughts about canceling my account. Now that I’ve thought about it, I think I’ll just go ahead and quit and devote my time to other things. Also, if I cancel my account by the 6th I can avoid getting charged another month.
