Random Stuff

I’ve been hard at work over the past few days on a project for class. Procrastination sucks! Sometimes I wonder if I went into the wrong field. Maybe I should have gone into education or business. I’m starting to hate sitting in front of a computer typing all day. I think I’m already getting carpal tunnel. Oh well. The pretty pictures I get to create make me feel better…most of the time.

“What straight black man sits there and watches the Oscars? Show me one.” — Chris Rock, this year’s Oscar Awards host.

A couple of weeks ago I started having problems hearing in one of my ears. My ear feels stopped up and I’ve got this constant ringing. I can still hear out of it, but not very well. I’m not exactly sure what caused it. A couple of days before I had used some earplugs because I was using some noisy machinery, but I’ve done that plenty of times before. I didn’t stick the damn things in that far. After a few days of hoping it would return to normal serious I decided to go to the health center on campus. The doctor said that my eardrum was retracted and gave me some medicine to take. The medicine didn’t help at all but it might be useful the next time I have allergy problems. He had asked me to return for a follow-up, so I went in today. The doctor now wants me to go see an ear, nose, and throat specialist. So on Thursday I’ll be going to Tupelo to see this specialist. Hopefully, I’ll be getting some good news. Maybe I’m just paranoid and worried for nothing. I guess we’ll see.

Mr. Potter!

Tuesday, December 21st, 2004 1 comment

Harry Potter fans rejoice! The new Harry Potter book, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, will be released on July 16, 2005. Good thing it’s not as long of a wait as last time. Check this out.

I recently saw a headline saying that the next movie, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, is about 75% done. I didn’t read the article though. It’s currently scheduled for release on November 18, 2005.

Free Movie Night

Monday, December 6th, 2004 No comments

Tonight, Rick’s Cafe teamed with WMSV to offer Free Movie Night at Hollywood Premier Cinemas here in Starkville. This was the second time they had done this and the plan is to make it a semi-annual event. The first 1500 people that entered the theater after 6:15 tonight got to see whatever movie they wanted for absolutely free. Jason, Jennifer, Allison, and I decided to go see I Heart Huckabees. I like indie movies, but a lot of them are very strange and this one was no exception. Still, it was funny in some parts and I enjoyed it overall.

The Incredibles

Saturday, November 6th, 2004 No comments

I saw The Incredibles last night. It’s a VERY good movie. Loads of fun. But that’s to be expected from Pixar. Go see this movie ASAP!

This weekend was supposed to be the debut of the Star Wars Episode 3 trailer, but it wasn’t played before The Incredibles. I’m sure I’ll be able to find it online somewhere.

The Return of the King

The Return of the King (Platinum Series Special Extended Collector’s Gift Set) is now available for pre-order and will be released on December 14. It has about 50 minutes of extra scenes, a lot of behind the scenes material, and a sculpture of Minas Tirith. I can’t wait to see this. I’ve ordered the gift sets for the previous 2 movies in the series and I’m going to get this one. I’ve put off watching this movie on DVD until I could watch the extended editions. I did the same with the first 2. If want to order it and use the link above to do so, it’ll help me out some.

Documentary Film Binge

Thursday, October 14th, 2004 No comments

This week I’m going on a little bit of a documentary film binge.

It started on Monday when Diary of a Political Tourist made its debut on HBO. It’s about the Democratic presidential race from the primaries until the convention this past summer. It’s done by the same lady who made Journeys with George, which is about George Bush’s 2000 campaign. I’ve got this one in my Netflix queue.

Today I’m watching Bush’s Brain and Fahrenheit 9/11. Bush’s Brain is about Karl Rove, who a lot of people think has more to do with shaping our national policy than our president. I’m sure just about everbody has heard about Fahrenheit 9/11, but I’ve never seen it before.

Tomorrow I’ll be watching Supersize Me, which takes a look at the fast food industry. It may be a while before I go to McDonald’s again after I watch this one.

In my Netflix queue I have Bush Family Fortunes: The Best Democracy Money Can Buy. I’m sure it covers a lot of the same stuff as Fahrenheit 9/11, but I’ll watch it anyway. It currently has a long wait, so I’m not sure when I’ll get to see it.

If I need any reasons to dislike our president and fast food restaurants, I’m sure I’ll have them by the time I am done. It might not watch any movies for a while after this weekend.

Columbia House Gets Mature

Thursday, October 14th, 2004 No comments

A few years ago I joined the Columbia House DVD Club.  I haven’t ordered anything from them in years because I fulfilled my membership obligation and it’s normally easier to buy DVD’s from a local store.  I got an email a little while ago saying that they were going to start offering “mature” titles.  Initially, they are only going to offer Playboy videos, but they will expand their selection in the future.  So go join Columbia House and get your porn!

Miscellaneous

Today was the first day of classes at MSU, and campus was crazy. There were so many people, but it’s usually like that on the first day. I’m sure it’ll settle down in a few weeks. I actually rode the shuttle to the union because I didn’t think I could find a parking place nearby. It’s pretty easy to spot the freshmen. They’re the ones that look so young and don’t really know what they’re doing.

I finally started working out again today. I know that I’ll be feeling it in the morning. My goal is to lose 60 pounds in 5 days (just kidding).

MSN has a list of Top Ten Business Movies. I’m not surprised to see Office Space on the list.

I watched Cold Mountain. It’s a really good movie with a bunch of recognizable actors, but I thought it was a little too long.
