Home for the Holidays

I’m now in Jackson for the to spend time with the family during Christmas. I actually drove my car down here. It’s the farthest that I have driven it in about 8 months. Now I just hope that it’ll get me back to Starkville on Monday. In my haste to get on the road and get down here, I accidentally left without the presents that I spent so much time picking out. Oops! I didn’t realize it until I was unloading the car here in Jackson. It looks like I’ll be taking some packages to the post office next week.

I hope everyone has a great Christmas. May you get good presents and eat lots of good food.

Let it Snow

Thursday, December 23rd, 2004 No comments

I wish we would get some real snowfall this year, hopefully around New Years. All my traveling should be done by then. We got a little bit of something last night. Maybe just snow flurries? There’s nothing on the ground but a little it on cars and rooftops. Now I need to go and try to pry my door open without doing any damage to the car.

Mr. Potter!

Harry Potter fans rejoice! The new Harry Potter book, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, will be released on July 16, 2005. Good thing it’s not as long of a wait as last time. Check this out.

I recently saw a headline saying that the next movie, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, is about 75% done. I didn’t read the article though. It’s currently scheduled for release on November 18, 2005.

Everquest II Outage

Sunday, December 19th, 2004 No comments

The server that I usually play Everquest II on was down for about 2 days this weekend. After their normal early morning update on Friday, Sony had to take down all their US servers and I think one of their other servers. Most servers came back online yesterday morning, but the one that I usually play on didn’t come back on until this morning.

The latest message said something about hardware issues. A previous message said that they were doing a rollback. Whatever happened, they probably disappointed a lot of people. The downtime was good because I needed to work on other things this weekend.

At least they are going to try to make it up to everyone. Until Tuesday morning, everyone will receive a 50% XP bonus on adventuring and tradeskilling. I wasn’t planning on playing much over the next couple of days, but I think I will now. They also are giving everyone 3 free days.

Older and Wiser

Today is the anniversary of my escape from the womb. Yes, I stole that from Family Guy. I’m not sure what I’ll be doing today. Probably nothing. At least this nothing will be special, because it’s my birthday 🙂

My Boring Life

So I googled the phrase “My Boring Life” and came up with a ton of hits. It’s good to know that other people are just as uncreative as I am. I guess I’ll just have to come up with another subtitle for this site. And maybe a logo.

Legend of Earthsea

Monday, December 13th, 2004 No comments

There is a new miniseries making it’s debut tonight at 8 CST on Sci Fi Channel called Legend of Earthsea. It’s based on books by Ursula K. Le Guin. The series stars Shawn Ashmore (X-Men), Kristen Kreuk(Smallville), Danny Glover (Lethal Weapon), and Isabella Rossellini (drawing a blank here), among amothers.

Although most Sci Fi original movies that I’ve seen parts of are very bad, their miniseries are usually very good. If this one is only half as good as Taken, it’ll still be worth watching.

I’ve never read any of the books, but I’m going to give the series a try.

Wal-Mart Shopping in a U-Haul

Sunday, December 12th, 2004 No comments

I bought a new TV a few weeks ago. Derek and I took his truck to Wal-Mart to get it. The new TV was quite a bit and was too big for my entertainment center. It was about a week before I could finally get somebody with a truck to help me get a new entertainment system. It was Jason’s girlfriend’s friend’s truck, but all three of them helped. I put the entertainment center together that night and part of the next day and Jason came back after I finished to help me put it into place. It was about another week before I finally got around to connecting my home theater system and consoles to the new TV.

This is when I started having issued. I noticed that there were always horizontal lines on the screen whenever I used one of these devices. I tried different cables (same problem) and I tried connecting my devices to the old TV (no problem). After looking around online I figured that I might just have a bad TV, so I figured that I would take it back and get something else.

Not knowing that he was getting ready to move on Monday, I emailed Russ to make sure that he was still in town. I thought that he still had another week or so here, but I was just trying to be sure. I think I used the word “truck” in the email, but I was referring to his jeep. His response said that he was picking up his U-Haul the next day and that we could use it to return the TV. He had some stuff that he needed to buy as well. So today we went to Wal-Mart in a U-haul to make the exchange. I wanted to get a different brand, but they didn’t have the one I wanted in stock. Right now there is a big gap where my TV should be.

I helped Russ and his roommate load all of Russ’s stuff into the U-Haul, and then we went out to eat later on. Once again it seemed like Russ new everbody in the damn place because they all work or worked at Service Zone. They undercooked my steak and overcooked Russ’s. Jon (the devil’s son) and his roommate joined us a shortly after week got our food. They ended up giving Russ a new steak and cooked mine some more. I had to listen to them run on about Horizons for a long time. I was almost completely lost.

Russ is leaving tomorrow. At this rate, there won’t be anybody left to help me move when it’s my turn. May/June 2005. I can’t wait.

Lost

Saturday, December 11th, 2004 No comments

Lost is definitely my favorite new TV show this season. Of all the new shows that I started watching this season (mostly NBC shows because of all that advertising during the Olympics), Lost is the only one that I still watch.

The show is about a group of plane crash survivors that are stranded on a deserted island. It’s a lot like 24 in that it’s really just one long story divided into many different episodes. Each episode spans approximately one day. I like the way that use flashbacks in each episode to give you background information on one of the characters. It may be hard to pick up on everything if you haven’t been watching since the beginning, but I urge you to give it a try anyway. It comes on Wednesday nights at 7 CST on ABC. The very first episode is being replayed this coming Wednesday.

It has several actors in in that I recognize from other places: Daniel Dae Kim (24), Dominic Monaghan (The Lord of the Rings), Terry O’Quinn (Star Trek: The Next Generation, Earth 2), Harold Perrineau (Oz, Matrix 2 & 3), and Ian Somerhalder (Smallville, Life as a House).

There have been rumors about a death on the show for a while now. This past Wednesday, I thought it had actually happened. Dominic Monaghan’s character was left hanging from a tree by some psycho and the doctor couldn’t bring him back. At this point I’m thinking to myself, “I should’ve know something was up when I saw him on The Late Late Show last night because I haven’t seen any of these people promoting this show before”. I was angry because they were killing off that poor little hobbit. Luckily the doctor went crazy, started back pounding on the hobbit’s chest, and was able to bring him back.

Go Doc!

DS or PSP

Thursday, December 9th, 2004 1 comment

Should I get a Nintendo DS or a Sony PSP? I’ve heard positive and negative things about both systems.

I went to GameStop today. The manager there is pretty cool. I went to buy the KOTOR II strategy guide because they didn’t have it in when I went to buy the game. He gave me the 20% discount that you get when you buy the guide at the same time as you purchase the game. We started talking about DS’s, and said that I should go play one. We played a multiplayer match in the Metroid game. It was a pretty even match, but he had to go talk to an applicant. Anyway, after playing it for a while, I’m pretty sure I want a DS. But I think I’ll put off a final decision until I can test drive a PSP.
