Some Things to Do In 2011

I came up with a list of things I want to do in 2011. I hate to use the term “resolution”. I reserve the right to change my mind of any of these without feeling guilty. I didn’t do this last year, so I can’t whether I was successful this year or not.

  • Move. I want to move either to a better place in Starkville or out of Starkville. One or the other is going to happen. The time is right now.
  • Go to my first convention. I want to go to San Diego Comic-con, but if that doesn’t work out I’ll go to Dragon Con in Atlanta.
  • Keep exercising. I’ve lost 45 pounds so far. I just need to keep it up, even if my gym becomes unusable because of all the new people in January. I also want to start strength training.
  • Buy new clothes. I need new clothes, especially new underwear. I hate shopping. The only clothes I get are the ones I get for Christmas presents. I need to change that.
  • Learn something new. I want to learn something new and cool tech-related.  Unfortunately, my job doesn’t provide me with many opportunities to learn new things.
  • Meet new people. Most of the time I’m happy to sit at home, hang out with Reese, and catch up on TV. I just don’t feel like going out. I don’t know how to meet people around here since there’s nothing to do and I’m not a student anymore. It may be that I don’t meet any new people until after I move.
  • Listen to music more often. I listen to too many podcast and neglect the music collection that I’ve spent so much time on.
  • Blog more. I’ve done well this week, but normally I blog only once a month. I want to do better without setting an arbitrary frequency that I might struggle to stick to.

I think these are pretty simple and very doable. Hopefully, I won’t forget to look back at these throughout the year and at the end of the year.

Happy New Year!

Update, 1/5/2011
The title originally said 2001 instead of 2011.  Thanks to Morning Toast for pointing that out.

  • Things I want to do in 2001…get good grades at college, get engaged…oh wait, you mean 2011! My bad.

Totally with you on the learn something new. Well, maybe not entirely…lets just say I want to really improve some skills to help me create things I (and others) can enjoy. My job doesn’t do well at letting me explore/learn new stuff either, so I’m on my own for that. So I’ve decided this year is the year I take making video games a little more seriously if for no other reason because I like gaming so much.

I’m planning on going to my first convention too…a Hot Wheels convention in Nashville. I don’t really want to fly anywhere and Nashville is well within driving range for me. Hopefully we can turn it into a little vacation too.

How do you spend your lunch hour at work? I know it depends on your office environment, but I find my lunch hour a great chance to blog. I need to make it a point to blog more too. I have a tendency to blog “big” instead of just blogging what’s on my mind. I need to get out of my magazine-mind and just jot stuff down.

And hopefully we’ll get CAVEradio back on the air at some point too and talk about all of this. 🙂

  • @Morning Toast Thanks for pointing out the error in the title 🙂

There’s some bacon convention in Columbus, OH that I would go to if it weren’t a couple of weeks before Comic Con.

I usually go home during lunch to let the dog out and I eat there. There’s not a whole lot going on at work lately, so I can spend time there learning new things even if it isn’t related to my current job.

I tends to blog in spurts. I’ve gotten used to tweeting what’s on my mind.

I’ll have to put my new headset to work when CAVEradio comes back.
